Gala North Substation and ZA Line
The proposal:
SP Energy Networks (SPEN) is proposing the development of a new substation at Threepwood, near Blainslie, South of Lauder. The proposal includes the diversion into the new substation of the 400kV overhead line that currently runs between Cockenzie and Eccles.The site is approx 4km from Lauder, near Blainslie and Threepwood Moss.
There have been previous public consultations regarding the substation. This latest consultation is the first to include the diversion of the 400kV overhead line.

Good morning, trust you are well following on from the recent consultation to discuss proposals regarding Gala North Substation – SP Energy Networks are planning to carry out ground investigation works at the potential site location – this work is scheduled to commence this week and continue through towards the end of August.
The limited activity is not expected to have any impact on the local community – if you have any questions / further information needed please let us know.

SPEN (Gala North Substation and ZA Line) was invited to the LCC meeting on the 8th June 2026. Please find their presentation document attached at this link.
Prior to the meeting on the 8th June Lauderdale Community Council sent SPEN (Gala North Substation and ZA Line) a list of 27 questions all of which they have now answered. To view them please go to this link.
